2903 NEW BEDFORD — Albin P. Holmstrom, 85, of New Bedford, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at New Bedford Health Care, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Anna (Sylvia) Caton-Holmstrom and Adelaide (Boino) Holmstrom.

He was born in New Bedford and was a lifelong resident.

He was a WW II Navy Veteran and held the rank of Seaman 1st Class and was the recipient of many medals and citations. He served aboard the USS Garrard. He was formerly employed by New England Tel & Tel until his retirement.

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Retirees and enjoyed fishing, refinishing furniture, wood carving, camping, fly tieing and the outdoors.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Donner and her husband, Jonathan of New Bedford; a son, David Holmstrom and his wife, Marie of New Bedford; a step daughter, Ida Souza and her husband, Dale of New Bedford; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late George M. and William Holmstrom and Mary Dufresne.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missions Fund at the Dartmouth Bible Church, 52 Morton Ave, Dartmouth, MA 02747.

In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated and his funeral was private.

The family will be receiving relatives and friends for a celebration of his life on Wednesday, MAY 9, 2007, at 2:30 PM at the Darmouth Bible Church.

Ex- Tekoa mayor' rites
Tekoa, wash. - Funeral rites will be Saturday for ex-Tekoa mayor and civic leader Mrs. Edgar (Helen L.) Johnson, 67, who died yesterday atthe Tekoa Care Center., She lived at the center for thepast month.
Services will be at 1 p.m. at the United Church here, with burial inthe cemetery at Garfield, Wash.
Mrs. Johnson was mayor here in 1978, resigning in June 1979, and hadserved on the City Council and was planning commission secretary during the 1970's Mrs. Johnson also was a school board member and school board clerk and had worked at the Seattle-First National Bank here for 19 years. She was a school board member at the time the new high school was built inthe 1960s. Born in Minnesota May 2, 1913, she had married Morgan Hosking in Minnesota before they moved to Kellogg, Idaho. The family later moved to Garfield and here, where Mr. Hosking died in 1953.
She married again in 1958.
Besides her work in government, she was the organist at the United Church for many years.
Surviving her are her husband, Edgar, at home; a daughter, Marilyn Lane of Redmond, Ore; a son, Ron Hosking of Seattle; a brother, four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Eugene for Torkel G. "Tom" Kaarhus, who originated the McKenzie River boat design now used throughout the Northwest and Alaska.
Kaarhus, 71, died Saturday after an illness of several years. His home was at 4824 Fox Hollow Rd., Eugene. He was born in Nedre Vats, Norway, Jan. 5, 1893, and came to the United States and settled in Iowa in 1909. About a year late, he moved to Silverton, Ore., and worked there in home construction and electrical work. He studied voice and directed a chorus while in Silverton. Kaarhus moved to Eugene in 1923 to work on the construction of Pacific Christian Hospital. He worked for Ford-Nelson Lumber Co., and opened his own business - the Kaarhus Craft Shop - at 1366 Moss St., in 1935. In this business, Kaarhus did cabinet work as well as originating the lightweight, plywood, curved bottom river boat. Recently, he had built ocean-going trimarans. Kaarhus had a life-long interest in choral music. He was a charter member of the Eugene Gleemen, and was an assistant director of the Gleemen for some time. He was a charter member of the Sons of Norway and organized and directed the Norsemen, a singing group, which appeared throughout the West. For most of his adult life, Kaarhus directed church choirs. He was choir director at Central Lutheran Church in Eugene for 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Adena; a son, Joe Gudman Kaarhus of Eugene, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2p.m. at Central Lutheran Church,1857 Potter St., with the Rev. Olaf Anderson officiating. Contributions in Kaarhus' memory may be made to the Cancer Society in care of Poole-Larsen Funeral Chapel, which is in charge of funeral arrangements. Interment will be at Rest-Haven Memorial Park.

Coquille , Nov 16 (1945) - Special- In serious Condition at the Stark hospital here is Vernon Johnson 32, of Coquille, who suffered a skull fracture and other injuries Friday afternoon when struck by a fallingtree at the Coos Bay Lumber compan's Fairview camp.
Vertebrae in Johnson's neck were pulled apart and he had chest injuries, it was reported. (the above from nilsson.FTW by SondraJohnson Aldegarie)
