  At the time of Laverne's birth, the family name was Holm. His first child Monte was born in 1941 with the name of Holm. During WWII in the early 1940's everyone had to get a copy of their birth certificate and that is when Laverne discovered that the Dr. had written his dad's last name as "Holmes" and from that point on Laverne used Holmes as his name. When Monte went into the army (abt 1959 - 1960) he had to have his birth certificate changed to Holmes to match his father'sname. Rhonda, born in 1951 was given the Holmes name at birth.
