- Clara Mae Douglass

Clara M. Douglass, 99 0f Camano Island, passed away at her home February 28, 2016, with her family by her side. Clara Mae Nelson was born in American Falls, Idaho on her Mother's birthday, February 25, 1917. She would be the oldest of seven daughters born to Knute S. and Verna L. Nelson.
The Nelson family moved to Palouse, WA in the Late 1920's where Clara graduated from High School in 1934. She moved then married Robert J. Seagle and they had two children; Robert D. Seagle and James J. Seagle. During the war years of 1943-1945 Clara was employed as a Dr's Assistant and later nurse at Baxter General Hospital, an Army hospital in Spokane, WA. Her duties included traveling to the East Coast helping transferring wounded Veterans to Spokane by Train to receive treatment. The hospital closed in 1946 and Clara became employed at St. Luke's Hospital also in Spokane, and numerous Dr.'s offices .
She eventually meet Capt. Kenneth M. Douglass, Originally of Stanwood, WA they married on August 5, 1953. And had on son Fred M Douglass on July 20, 1957. Then Clara and Kenneth went on to Celebrate 56 years of marriage. Upon her husbands retirement from the Air Force, the Family moved to Stanwood, WA in 1965, and then to Camano Island, WA in 1971.
Clara loved Gardening, receiving many "Sweepstakes Awards" for her entries in the Stanwood-Camano Fair. She kept her gardens like she kept her home, Immaculate.
Clara was active in Youth groups, participating in Cub Scouts, FFA, and the" Benjamin Franklin Stamp Club". She loved being around and talking to people. You could always catch her on the Airwaves of her citizens band radio under the name of Pocahontas.
Clara lived a long and full life, she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by four sisters; Erlene Edwards of Clarkston, WA, Bretha Decker of Vale, Ore., Hilda Grytdal of Chewelah, WA; and Doris Hartman of Sweet Springs, MO., Her son James J, Seagle of Reardon, WA and husband Kenneth M. Douglass of Camano Island.
She is survived by two sisters; Ailene Daniels of Chatterroy, WA, and Alice Roberts of Clackston, WA, Her son Robert Duane Seagle (Anita) of Ford, WA and daughter-in-law Linda Seagle of Reardon, WA, and Fred Michael Douglass ( Tami) of Camano Island, WA Also 9 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren , and 8 great great grandchildren.
At her request Private services will be held at the Our Saviour's Lutheran Cemetery, Stanwood .
