  	Otto Olson, 73-year-old native and live-long resident of this area, died Jan. 14 at the Tuality Community Hospital where he had been hospitalized for the previous 12 days. Funeral for Mr. Olson was held at the Fuiten Mortuary Chapel, Forest Grove on Friday, Jan. 16 with his pastor the Rev. John Kelly, minister of the United Church of Christ officiating. Concluding rites and vault interment were at the Forest View Cemetery. Mrs. Olson was born at Carlton, on Aug.1 1896, the son of Nels and Anna Olson. He spent all of his early life in the Carlton and Gaston area and served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He married Doris Wolf at Gaston on Sept. 5, 1923. After his marriage Mr. Olson lived for many years on a farm on Olson Road southwest of Gaston and farmed and also was well known as a sheep shearer for 35 years. After World War II he moved to his present home in Forest Grove and was engaged in logging and contracting working with heavy machinery until failing health forced his retirement. Mr. Olson was a longtime member of the Gaston Congregational Church and later of the United Church of Christ in Forest Grove. He was a charter member and Past Commander of the Laughlin-Orr post of the American Legion at Yamhill and later of Washington Post No.2 of the Legion in Forest Grove. He was also a member and junior commander of the Veterans of World War I, Barracks 2829. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Dorris Olson, Forest Grove; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Louise) Woolsey, Beaverton; two sons, James R. Olson, Forest Grove and Phillip D Olson, Bellevue, Wash. and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Albin Olson, Cherry Grove and Emit Olson, Cornelius and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Helvie, Portland. [Forest Grove News Times, Jan 1970]
