- Fred Fiddelke, son of Johann Heinrich Fiddelke and Elizabeth Clausen, was born in Hanover Germany, on Feb.10,1872. He was baptized on Feb.18,1872. He came to America in 1884 to Madison Illinois, where he attend school and was confirmed on March 26,1885. In 1888 he came to O'Brien county with his parents and lived on a farm near Germantown, where he became a carpenter. He was untied in marriage on May 24,1901, to Sophie Stoeckman and moved to Germantown. To this union 10 children were born, one of whom (Hugo) preceded him in death in 1954. He passed away Tuesday Jan.24, at the family home in Germantown. Services were held at the Gaudian funeral home at 1:30 and St. John's Lutheran church at 2:00. The ladies choir sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "Abide with Me." Rev. A. E. Vehling conducted the services. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at Germantown. He is survived by his wife, Sophie, three sons, Albert of Paullina, Herbert of Spencer, and Marvin of Calumet; six daughters, Ella (Mrs. Arthur Gebert) of Granville, Esther(Mrs. Walter Meyer) of Mallard, Lillie, (Mrs Otto Bode) of Primghar, Ruth, (Mrs. Ed Steffen) of Granville, Sarah, (Mrs. Herman Axdahl) of Gaza, and Elsbeth (Mrs. Lawerence Richter) of Lime Springs; 33 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren. Out of town guests attending the funeral were: Mrs. Emma Meyer, Springfield, Minn; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Meyer and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Stoeckmann, Slayton Minn; Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Schuknecht, Rita and Lyle of Sac City; Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Mesner, Sutherland; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Meyer and Delores, Mallard; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Meyer, Curlew; Mrs. Hattie F. Kilgus, and Walter Fiddelke, Chicago; Carol J. Bode, and Lois Gebert, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. James Bockelmann, Sioux Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Fiddelke, and Richard, Spencer; Lola Mincer, Cherokee; Dr. and Mrs. R.M. Bahnsen Corectionville.
