Ex- Tekoa mayor' rites
Tekoa, wash. - Funeral rites will be Saturday for ex-Tekoa mayor and civic leader Mrs. Edgar (Helen L.) Johnson, 67, who died yesterday atthe Tekoa Care Center., She lived at the center for thepast month.
Services will be at 1 p.m. at the United Church here, with burial inthe cemetery at Garfield, Wash.
Mrs. Johnson was mayor here in 1978, resigning in June 1979, and hadserved on the City Council and was planning commission secretary during the 1970's Mrs. Johnson also was a school board member and school board clerk and had worked at the Seattle-First National Bank here for 19 years. She was a school board member at the time the new high school was built inthe 1960s. Born in Minnesota May 2, 1913, she had married Morgan Hosking in Minnesota before they moved to Kellogg, Idaho. The family later moved to Garfield and here, where Mr. Hosking died in 1953.
She married again in 1958.
Besides her work in government, she was the organist at the United Church for many years.
Surviving her are her husband, Edgar, at home; a daughter, Marilyn Lane of Redmond, Ore; a son, Ron Hosking of Seattle; a brother, four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
